LAC THIEN ORPHANAGE
Founded in 2006, the Lac Thien Orphanage is part of the Phat Buu pagoda, and lies north of Nha Trang in Ninh Hoa district, not far from the Mai Am Anh Dao Orphanage. The pagoda is housed by Buddhist nuns, and the orphanage’s origins are endearing. On a peaceful day in 2006, a baby was left at the gates of the pagoda. The nuns cared for him, and from that day on they have taken in orphan children from the area. The orphanage is run by the nuns of Lac Thien and the head nun, Chon Minh, and is not owned or operated by Lovingkindness Vietnam. They rely entirely upon donations, most of which come from people in the community. There are currently 27 children at the orphanage, from newborns to teenagers. They also care for 3 adults who suffer from mental handicaps.
As Lac Thien is far from Nha Trang, and smaller than other orphanages, it gets almost zero visitors from the large cities. We were fortunate to discover this wonderful home for children in 2012, and our team has endeavored to help them as best we can.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS
Take one of the main roads heading north out of Nha Trang, either 2 Thang 4 street or Pham Van Dong street. Drive for about 50 kilometers until you enter Ninh Hoa town. Stay on the main road heading north, and after you exit the town you’ll pass a turnoff for the Hyundai Vinashin shipyard. Right after the Hyundai turnoff is another road branching right, which will take you to Ninh Tho ward. From here just ask for “Chua Phat Buu” and you’ll be there in no time.
