In May 2022 we had a great visit to the Lac Thien Orphanage. Our lead coordinator, Mai Khanh, stays in regular contact with the nuns at the orphanage to ensure they have everything they need to care for the children. This month, the nuns gave us a detailed list of food and general supplies they were running low on. Mai Khanh and our team of volunteers in Nha Trang did all the shopping at local markets, loaded up a van, and made the drive north into Ninh Hoa to visit the orphanage.

On this visit, we brought racks of eggs, bags of rice, boxes of ramen noodles, bottles of cooking oil, bags of mushrooms, canned pork, canned sardines, packages of instant porridge, seasonings, shampoo, sleeping mats, diapers, toiletries, and cleaning supplies.

As a nice surprise, Mai Khanh prepared sweet treats of all the children to enjoy. It was a lovely visit!

This charity trip to the orphanage was made possible through the kindhearted donation from Mai Anh Do. Thank you!!!

ABOUT THE LAC THIEN ORPHANAGE

Founded in 2006, the Lac Thien Orphanage is part of the Phat Buu pagoda and lies north of Nha Trang in Ninh Hoa district. The orphanage’s origins are endearing. On a peaceful day, a baby was left at the gates of the pagoda. The nuns cared for him, and from that day on they have taken in orphan children from the area. The orphanage is run by the nuns of the pagoda and its head nun, Chon Minh. They rely entirely upon donations, most of which come from people in the community. There are about 30 children at the orphanage, from newborns to teenagers, and Lac Thien also takes in elderly whose family cannot care for them.
