In early May 2020 we had a big visit to the Lac Thien Orphanage and brought them lots of essential supplies. We coordinated with the nuns at the orphanage to learn of their most pressing needs, then our team of volunteers did all the shopping and drove out to the orphanage. On this visit, we brought bags of rice, bottles of cooking oil, bags of bean varieties, racks of eggs, seasoning varieties, soaps, shampoos, diapers, baby wipes, and cleaning supplies.

The children helped carry everything into the orphanage common room and we handed out balloons for some play time. Next, our team prepared iced sweet mung bean drinks, which hit the spot on a hot day. It was a very fun visit!

This charity trip was made possible through the kindhearted donations of Chau Nguyen, KTD Services LLC, Hung Pham, Suruchi Khemka, Daniel Cole, Dane Sawmiller, Elaine Nguyen, and Dan, Van, and Devin Haynes. Thank you!!!

ABOUT THE LAC THIEN ORPHANAGE

Founded in 2006, the Lac Thien Orphanage is part of the Phat Buu pagoda and lies north of Nha Trang in Ninh Hoa district. The orphanage’s origins are endearing. On a peaceful day, a baby was left at the gates of the pagoda. The nuns cared for him, and from that day on they have taken in orphan children from the area. The orphanage is run by the nuns of the pagoda and its head nun, Chon Minh. They rely entirely upon donations, most of which come from people in the community. There are about 30 children at the orphanage, from newborns to teenagers, and Lac Thien also takes in elderly whose family cannot care for them.
