In January 2020, we visited the Lac Thien Orphanage to celebrate Tet, the lunar new year. We coordinated with the nuns at the orphanage, and in addition to bringing some essential supplies to the orphanage, brought some special Tet surprises for the children.

When our team arrived, the children were excellent helpers and brought the supplies inside. General supplies included bags of rice, bags of dried squid, bags of dried fish, seasonings, kitchen supplies, and household supplies.

Our team handed out balloons and the children had lots of fun playing in the common room. Once everyone was seated, our team handed out red envelopes of lucky money to all the children. A fun Tet tradition!

This charity trip to the orphanage was made possible through the kind donations of Suruchi Khemka, Susan Papuga, Elaine Nguyen, Rita Marinucci, KTD Services LLC, Thao Dinh, and Anne Dickenson. Thank you!!!

ABOUT THE LAC THIEN ORPHANAGE

Founded in 2006, the Lac Thien Orphanage is part of the Phat Buu pagoda and lies north of Nha Trang in Ninh Hoa district. The orphanage’s origins are endearing. On a peaceful day, a baby was left at the gates of the pagoda. The nuns cared for him, and from that day on they have taken in orphan children from the area. The orphanage is run by the nuns of the pagoda and its head nun, Chon Minh. They rely entirely upon donations, most of which come from people in the community. There are about 30 children at the orphanage, from newborns to teenagers, and Lac Thien also takes in elderly whose family cannot care for them.
