In October 2023 we had a great visit to the Lac Thien Orphanage. We coordinated with the caretakers and arranged to bring lots of food and general supplies for the month. Our team did the shopping at local markets, loaded up a van, and made the drive north into Ninh Hoa to the orphanage.

When we arrived, the children rushed out to greet our team. So many smiling faces! We stacked all the supplies in the main courtyard, and all the children gathered together. On this visit, we brought many large bags of rice, bottles of cooking oil, packages of noodles, sugar, soy sauce, shampoo, body wash, cleaning products, and diapers.

As a treat for the children, we handed out yogurt cups for everyone to enjoy. It was a lovely day!

This charity trip was made possible through kindhearted donations from Vanessa Nguyen, Alysha Sims, Koshu Takatsuji, Daniel Cole, Thuy Le, Jef O’Riley, Bichlien Nguyen, Mimi Ly, and Elaine Nguyen. Thank you!!!

Founded in 2006, the Lac Thien Orphanage is part of the Phat Buu pagoda and lies north of Nha Trang in Ninh Hoa district. The orphanage’s origins are endearing. On a peaceful day, a baby was left at the gates of the pagoda. The nuns cared for him, and from that day on they have taken in orphan children from the area. The orphanage is run by the nuns of the pagoda and its head nun, Chon Minh. They rely entirely upon donations, most of which come from people in the community. There are about 30 children at the orphanage, from newborns to teenagers, and Lac Thien also takes in elderly whose family cannot care for them.
