In January 2022 we had a great visit with the children at the Lac Thien Orphanage. The Lunar New Year is approaching, and we wanted to do something special for the children combined with our regular monthly visit. We coordinated with the caretakers and made a detailed list of essential supplies the orphanage was in need of this month. Our team loaded up and van and made the drive north to the orphanage.

The children came out to meet the van and helped our volunteers carry everything inside. On this visit, we brought boxes of instant noodles, bamboo shoots, peanuts, packages of sausages, bottles of soy sauce, dish soap, school supplies, kitchen tools, utensils, and different sets of bowls.

Along with our essential supplies, we brought lots of traditional Tet treats, sweets, and snacks. The orphanage has everything they need for a fun Tet party! As a cool treat on a hot day, our team cut up slices of fresh watermelon for everyone to enjoy. So much fun!

This charity trip was made possible through the kind donations from Thuc Phan, Savy Cheam, Vanessa Nguyen, Daniel Cole, Minh Nguyen, and OneSource Building Technologies (OSBT). Thank you!!!

ABOUT THE LAC THIEN ORPHANAGE

Founded in 2006, the Lac Thien Orphanage is part of the Phat Buu pagoda and lies north of Nha Trang in Ninh Hoa district. The orphanage’s origins are endearing. On a peaceful day, a baby was left at the gates of the pagoda. The nuns cared for him, and from that day on they have taken in orphan children from the area. The orphanage is run by the nuns of the pagoda and its head nun, Chon Minh. They rely entirely upon donations, most of which come from people in the community. There are about 30 children at the orphanage, from newborns to teenagers, and Lac Thien also takes in elderly whose family cannot care for them.
