SUNFLOWER ORPHANAGE

Overseen by the Society of the Devine Word, the Sunflower orphanage is run by priests and nuns of St. Joseph’s parish in Nha Trang. The orphanage is privately run and not owned or operated by Lovingkindness Vietnam.  The orphanage first began taking in orphans in 1993 and is located in the heart of Nha Trang. At its peak, there were about 35 orphans aged 10 to 18 being cared for with separate locations for middle school and high school students. Sunflower also has a history of taking in street children and youths from troubled homes.

Over the years we have watched the children grow into young adulthood. By 2022, most of the orphans had completed high school and aged out of the orphanage, though they still maintain close connections with everyone at Sunflower and often visit. There are about 6 young orphans still being cared for at Sunflower, and the caretakers have told us that they receive sufficient donations from Nha Trang locals and members of the church to fully support the children’s needs. As such, we paused our charity visits in Fall 2022. We feel honored to have been a part of the orphanage’s mission, and we remain in contact with the caretakers should the children require any assistance.
