CHARITY HOMES & SCHOOLS

While public education in Vietnam is technically free, each student must buy uniforms, textbooks, school supplies, and pay a school maintenance fee. These combined costs can be a strain on poor families. The charity schools that we assist provide 100% free primary schooling through accredited teachers in facilities maintained on the school grounds. They ensure that poor children in their community receive a basic education, and offer a welcome alternative for families struggling to give their children an education. The charity schools are all run by their adjacent church or pagoda, and are not owned or operated by Lovingkindness Vietnam.  They rely entirely upon donations, most of which come from people in the community. The charity homes house and care for many of the community’s children whose families struggle to support and provide for them. For most of these homes, the children stay at the home year-round, sleep in dormitories, and have meals together in a communal dining hall. The nuns who run the home provide a nurturing environment for all, ensure the children attend local public schools, and some offer free daycare, kindergarten, and after school tutoring lessons.
