Our April visit to the Anh Dao Orphanage was a day defined by community, generosity, and plenty of smiles. After coordinating with the caretakers to identify their most urgent needs, we headed to the local markets to cross every item off their list.
Delivering the Essentials
Upon our arrival, we were met by a team of eager helpers. The children jumped right in, helping us unload the van and carry the supplies into the common room. Thanks to our donors, we were able to provide a comprehensive haul of essentials, including:
- Pantry Staples: Large bags of rice, packages of noodles, cooking oil, sugar, and seasonings.
- Fresh Groceries: A variety of meats, eggs, bean curd, meat pies, and fresh vegetables.
- Hygiene & Care: Diapers, shampoo, detergent, cleaning products, and toiletries.
- Daily Comforts: Milk, yogurt, and two new thermoses.
Special Requests & Upgrades
Beyond the recurring needs, we wanted to fulfill some special requests to improve the children’s daily environment. We delivered 10 mounted wall fans to keep the rooms cool and 5 brand-new study desks to give the students a dedicated space for their schoolwork.
A Day of Play
The afternoon was full of activity. While the older teens got to work installing the new fans, the younger children led us on a tour of the grounds. The day ended beautifully in the back field, where the kids brought out their kites to catch the breeze. To top it all off, everyone enjoyed a special treat of frozen yogurt!
A Heartfelt Thank You
None of this would be possible without the incredible compassion of our donors: Luanne Lemmer, Dao Giving Fund, Long Nguyen, Alysha Sims, Koshu Takatsuji, and Daniel Cole. Thank you!
About the Anh Dao Orphanage
Established in 2004 by Buddhist nun Thich Nu An Son, the Anh Dao Orphanage is a safe haven for a large group of children in need. Located in Ninh Hoa, just 62 kilometers north of Nha Trang, this heartfelt home offers a structured and nurturing atmosphere where joy and kindness flourish. Visitors are always struck by the cheerful spirits of the children and the genuine delight of spending time talking, playing, and simply being present with them.
To support the children’s nourishment and help offset monthly expenses, Sister An Son cultivates a modest farm behind the orphanage, near the girls’ living quarters. The farm yields fresh vegetables that are served in daily meals, and any surplus is sold to contribute to the home’s upkeep. It’s a beautiful cycle of care, sustainability, and love in action.
