In June 2023 we brought lots of food and general supplies to the Phu Quang Orphanage. This would be the final charity trip with the orphanage’s founder and head nun, Sister Thich Nu Dieu An, who passed away from cancer.
We had reached out to the orphanage the month prior to learn what we could bring them for June. They provided a detailed list of items, and we had everything delivered to the orphanage. This included bags of rice, bottles of cooking oil, bottles of fish sauce, seaweed, packages of ramen, and snacks.
The nuns at the orphanage sent us many pictures from the previous weeks of the children playing, which we’ve included in this post. This charity visit was made possible through the kind donations from JL Support Services.
When we learned of the head nun’s passing, our volunteers in Nha Trang drove out to the orphanage and paid their respects at the Phu Quang Pagoda. The orphanage will continue to be run by the other nuns of the Phu Quang pagoda, and we will continue to support their heartfelt efforts.
ABOUT THE PHU QUANG ORPHANAGE
The Phu Quang Orphanage was founded by Sister Thich Nu Dieu An at the Phu Quang pagoda in the early 2000’s. For many years, the orphanage has been a loving home to a group of orphans and a foster home to neighborhood children whose families struggle to support and provide for them. Phu Quang cares for just under 15 children in a loving environment. Sister Thich Nu Dieu An passed away in 2023, and the orphanage is run by the nuns of the Phu Quang pagoda.
