On June 8, 2018 we came to the Suoi Cat Charity Home & School to celebrate academic excellence. Suoi Cat is a poor community to the west of Nha Trang, composed of rural farming hamlets that live in poverty. The Suoi Cat Charity Home & School is a loving place that houses and cares for many of the community’s children whose families struggle to support and provide for them. The home is composed of young children and teenage girls, who stay at the home year-round, sleep in dormitories, and have meals together in a communal dining hall.
The school year has ended, and the final grades have come in. Many of the teenage girls who stay at Suoi Cat excelled in their grades and received awards in academic excellence from their schools. One of the missions of Lovingkindness Vietnam is to break the cycle of poverty through education, and we wanted to celebrate and encourage all the children at Suoi Cat to continue their dedication to education. The nuns at Suoi Cat offer constant support and provide private lessons to help the girls do well in school.
Our lead coordinator Mai Khanh has a strong relationship with everyone at Suoi Cat, and organized this project to bring gifts to the academic achievers. We also brought some essential supplies for the Home such as general foodstuff and cleaning supplies. After helping bring everything inside, the children gathered in the common room along with many of their parents from local villages. We handed out gifts along with the certificates of achievement to these amazing girls. The children along with their parents were beaming with pride!
This amazing charity trip was made possible through the kind donations of Chris Vo, Daniel Cole, Kari Pepar, Suruchi Khemka, Alexander Pham, Vinh Bach, and Dane Sawmiller.
Thank you!!!
