In April 2022 we had a fun trip to the Song Lo Orphanage. Every month we keep in touch with the orphanage caretakers, making sure they have all the food and supplies they need to support the children. For April, the caretakers provided a detailed list of items, and our team bought everything at local markets.
We loaded up and van and made the drive to Song Lo. The children helped stack all the provisions in the main common room, and everyone gathered together. On this visit, we brought bags of mushroom varieties, boxes of instant noodles, seasonings, bean curd sheets, vegan meat pies, banana leaves, peanuts, mung beans, white beans, black eyed peas, breadcrumbs, siracha, ketchup, sugar, tapioca starch, soy sauce, dried apples, jelly powder, yogurt, cheese, toothpaste, shampoo, body wash, laundry detergent, batteries, pens, and toiletries.
As a surprise for the children, we also brought comic books and snacks. The children had lots of fun!
This charity trip was made possible through the support from Dan, Van, and Devin Haynes. Thank you!!!
ABOUT THE SONG LO ORPHANAGE
The history of the Song Lo Orphanage’s beginnings is heartwarming. As the story goes, a Buddhist monk was traveling in the countryside when he encountered a woman who said she could not care for her 2 children. She left the babies with the monk and fled. Not expecting to have 2 babies to care for, the monk made his way to the Song Lo pagoda, and the head nun at the pagoda, Sister Cat, agreed to care for the children. From that point on, orphans have been either brought to the pagoda, or abandoned at their gates. Formed in 2012, the Song Lo Orphanage cares for a small group of young children. Located adjacent the Son Lo pagoda, it’s a small facility deep in the countryside west of Nha Trang.
