In August 2023 we had a lovely visit with the children at the Song Lo Orphanage. Every month we bring the orphanage food and general supplies. For August, we coordinated with the caretakers and made a detailed list of items to bring. Our team did lots of shopping at local markets and planned their drive out to see the children.

When we arrived, the children helped carry all the items into the main common room. On this visit, we brought boxes of ramen, rice cakes, chicken, beef balls, pork, milk, mushrooms, oyster sauce, beans, peanuts, tapioca, yogurt, jello, sugar, tofu sheets, toilet paper, detergent, and fabric softener.

As a refreshing treat on a hot day, we handed out iced sugar cane drinks for all the children to enjoy. So fun!

This charity trip was made possible through the kind donations from David and Trini Nguyen, Linh Lam, Vanessa Nguyen, Alysha Sims, and Songloc Dao. Thank you!!!

This trip was also sponsored by Cuong Chau, “In honour of my mom Lieu Thi Doan”.

The history of the Song Lo Orphanage’s beginnings is heartwarming. As the story goes, a Buddhist monk was traveling in the countryside when he encountered a woman who said she could not care for her 2 children. She left the babies with the monk and fled. Not expecting to have 2 babies to care for, the monk made his way to the Song Lo pagoda, and the head nun at the pagoda, Sister Cat, agreed to care for the children. From that point on, orphans have been either brought to the pagoda, or abandoned at their gates. Formed in 2012, the Song Lo Orphanage cares for a small group of young children. Located adjacent the Son Lo pagoda, it’s a small facility deep in the countryside west of Nha Trang.
