In early October 2020 we had a fun visit to the Suoi Dau Charity Home. We had reached out to the caretakers and made a detailed list of essential supplies they needed. Our team went to local markets, bought everything on the list, loaded up a van, and made the drive out to Suoi Dau.
Upon our arrival, the children were excellent helpers and carried everything to the steps of their main courtyard. We brought bags of rice, bottles of fish sauce, seasonings, breading, fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, bean varieties, and laundry detergent.
It’s the time of the Mid-Autumn Festival in Vietnam, which has some lovely traditions specific to children. We wanted the children at Suoi Dau to enjoy the holiday, so handed out paper lanterns, moon cakes, and traditional snacks to everyone. Our team then spent some time at the Home, while the children played chess and soccer.
Suoi Dau is located in a very poor community, and many of the children in the area don’t often get to celebrate the traditions of the Mid-Autumn Festival. The charity home already had traditional costumes for the boys to wear. The caretakers spread the word, and many of the community’s children gathered in the courtyard in the evening and enjoyed watching the boys of the Suoi Dau Charity Home perform lion dances for the Mid-Autumn Festival. It was such a lovely day!
This special holiday visit was made possible through the kind donation of An Nguyen. Thank you!!!
ABOUT THE SUOI DAU CHARITY HOME
The Suoi Dau Charity Home is located in Suoi Dau district near Suoi Cat, which are both poor communities to the west of Nha Trang composed of rural farming hamlets that live in poverty. The Suoi Dau Charity Home is a loving place that houses and cares for a group of the community’s young boys whose families struggle to support and provide for them. The boys stay at the home year-round, sleep in dormitories, and have meals together in a communal dining hall. The boys all come from the ethnic Raglay minority group. Overseen by pastor Dam Nguyen, the caretakers who run the home provide a nurturing environment and ensure the children attend local public schools and provide after-school tutoring lessons.
