In September 2024 we celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival with the children at the Anh Dao Orphanage. This is a special holiday with lots of fun traditions specifically for children. We coordinated with the head nun and arranged to have a big party when we made our monthly visit with food and general supplies. We also contributed to the children’s education costs for the upcoming school term.

When we arrived, the children met our team and helped carry all the general provisions into the main common room. This month, we brought bags of rice, milk, meats, seafood, racks of eggs, vegan food, mushrooms, seaweed, tofu sheets, tofu, cooking oil, seasonings, soy sauce, fish sauce, sugar, salt, fresh vegetables, laundry detergent, fabric softener, dish soap, bar soap, shampoo, and hand soap.

Everyone sat in chairs in the main common room and traditional dancers came out and performed for the children. One dancer was in the costume of Ong Dia, the earth god, and the other was a Ky Lan lion dancer. It was so fun!

Next, our team handed out traditional Mid-Autumn Festival lanterns to the children and moon cakes. We also brought new toys for the children to play with. It was a lovely day!

This big charity trip was sponsored by Christopher Dang, Dan, Van, and Devin Haynes, Vien Lam and Kevin Spring, Huy Nguyen, Kateryna Lo, and Littlechad Newfield. Thank you!!!

ABOUT THE ANH DAO ORPHANAGE

Founded in 2004 by the Buddhist nun Thich Nu An Son, a large group of orphans are cared for at this wonderful home in Ninh Hoa, 62 kilometers north of Nha Trang. Visit the orphanage and you’ll find a well-organized and loving environment. The children are happy, and it’s a joy to sit, talk, and play with the little ones. To help provide nourishment to the children, and as a small means of earning funds, Sister An Son tends a small farm behind the orphanage, in front of the girl’s living quarters. The children eat the vegetables that are grown here, and the surplus can be sold to help pay for monthly expenses.
