In July 2024 we brought a very special gift to the Song Lo Orphanage. Like many in Vietnam, the caretakers at Song Lo run all of their errands on a scooter that they share. This is especially necessary for the Song Lo orphanage, as it is located in a rural area where the roads can be difficult in the rainy season.

When we reached out to the caretakers last month about what we could bring them, they told us that their old scooter was wearing out and always in need of repairs. We learned how much a second-hand scooter would cost, and we told the caretakers that we would buy them a replacement scooter. They were overjoyed!

We also brought food and general supplies for the month. When the scooter arrived, the children took turns sitting on it, then our team handed out sweet tea drinks for all to enjoy. Such a lovely day!

These gifts for the orphanage were made possible through a corporate grant from Capital Group. Thank you!!!

ABOUT THE SONG LO ORPHANAGE

The history of the Song Lo Orphanage’s beginnings is heartwarming. As the story goes, a Buddhist monk was traveling in the countryside when he encountered a woman who said she could not care for her 2 children. She left the babies with the monk and fled. Not expecting to have 2 babies to care for, the monk made his way to the Song Lo pagoda, and the head nun at the pagoda, Sister Cat, agreed to care for the children. From that point on, orphans have been either brought to the pagoda, or abandoned at their gates. Formed in 2012, the Song Lo Orphanage cares for a small group of young children. Located adjacent the Son Lo pagoda, it’s a small facility deep in the countryside west of Nha Trang.
