In February 2021 we had a lovely visit with the children at the Dai An Orphanage to celebrate the Lunar New Year. Tet is the biggest holiday of the year in Vietnam with some special traditions for children, including wearing new clothes and having special holiday foods. We wanted the amazing children at Dai An to experience these traditions, so arrange a special visit.
We coordinated with the caretakers to bring essential supplies and foodstuff for the orphanage, and some surprise gifts for the children. When our team arrived, the children helped carry everything into the courtyard.
To celebrate Tet, the children got new outfits to wear to welcome the new year. We also brought traditional Banh Tet cakes, sunflower seeds, coconut candies, and other traditional treats. The children were excited about the clothes, and tried on the shirts and pants, putting them over the clothes they were wearing. We finished the visit with frozen treats for everyone. It was so much fun!
This charity trip was made possible through the kind donations of Sharon Kelly, Stephen Milne, Scott Huynh, and Elaine Nguyen. Thank you!!!
ABOUT THE DAI AN ORPHANAGE
The Dai An Orphanage is located in Cam Ranh district, south of Nha Trang, and cares for approximately 30 young children. It was founded by the same church that runs the Sunflower Orphanage in Nha Trang. Dai An is in a tranquil countryside locale and has a large facility for the children to grow and play. The caretakers provide a nurturing and loving home for these amazing children. There are also classrooms in the orphanage to provide the children with extra tutoring after school.
