On September 22, 2015 we brought the Mid-Autumn Festival to the Lac Thien Orphanage. This trip was sponsored by JL Support Services. The Mid-Autumn Festival is a fun holiday for children, as they get to carry paper lanterns, watch dragon dances, and eat yummy snacks. Poor orphanages such as Lac Thien often can’t afford these, but through the kind donations JL Support Services, we brought the festival to the children! For this visit, we also brought the orphanage new tables, stools, and fans.

Our lead coordinator has a large group of friends, nicknamed the Guiding Light Group, who often help her with our charity trips. For the orphans at Lac Thien, they went all out. After setting up the new tables, children all got paper lanterns and snacks. Then the show began. Mai Khanh’s friends got in costumes and put on a traditional dance of “Chu Cuoi”, which tells the tale of a greedy man who, in his vain attempts to possess a magic tree, ends up being carried to the moon. Next, our team of volunteers put on their own dance, and brought the children up to participate. The grand finale came when a professional team of dragon dancers put on a show for the orphanage. It was such a fun surprise for the orphans. Thank you JL Support Services!
