In January 2022 we had a great visit to the Suoi Dau Charity Home. The children at Suoi Dau all come from poor families who struggle at this time of year. With the Lunar New Year, prices for everyday good increase, and there are many traditions that impoverished families cannot afford. We wanted to do something special for these wonderful children, so planned a special holiday visit.
We coordinated with the caretakers and arranged special Tet gift bags for each child to take home to their families. When our team arrived, the boys put on their lion dancing costumes, brought out drums and cymbals, and put on a performance for our volunteers. So fun!
The children helped carry all the supplies into the courtyard and got some assistance from the girls at the neighboring Suoi Cat Charity Home. We handed out gift bags that consisted of traditional sticky rice cakes banh Tet and banh chung, Tet snacks and treats, and soda for a Tet party. As a yummy snack, we also handed out dragon fruit for everyone to enjoy. It was a lovely visit!
This Lunar New Year charity tris was made possible through the kindhearted donations of Mylinh Vopham, Bichlien Nguyen, Hung Pham, and Khoa Ngo. Thank you!!!
ABOUT THE SUOI DAU CHARITY HOME
The Suoi Dau Charity Home is located in Suoi Dau district near Suoi Cat, which are both poor communities to the west of Nha Trang composed of rural farming hamlets that live in poverty. The Suoi Dau Charity Home is a loving place that houses and cares for a group of the community’s young boys whose families struggle to support and provide for them. The boys stay at the home year-round, sleep in dormitories, and have meals together in a communal dining hall. The boys all come from the ethnic Raglay minority group. Overseen by pastor Dam Nguyen, the caretakers who run the home provide a nurturing environment and ensure the children attend local public schools and provide after-school tutoring lessons.
