In January 2023 we had a great Lunar New Year visit with the children at the Lac Thien Orphanage. Tet is the biggest holiday of the year in Vietnam, and we wanted to do something special for the children on our regular visit. First, we reached out to the nuns at the orphanage and made a list of general foodstuff and supplies they needed for the month. We also told them our plan to surprise the children with something special to welcome the Year of the Cat.
When our team arrived, we unloaded all the general supplies and stacked it in the courtyard. This month, we brought bags of rice, boxes of dried fish, milk, packages of ramen noodles, seasonings, and cleaning products.
To welcome the new year, we handed out red envelopes of lucky money to all the orphans, the elderly being cared for at the orphanage, and all the caretakers. We also treated the children to sweet tea and bird nest drinks. It was a lovely day!
This charity trip was made possible through the kind donations from Vien Huu Le and JL Support Services. Thank you and happy new year!!!
ABOUT THE LAC THIEN ORPHANAGE
Founded in 2006, the Lac Thien Orphanage is part of the Phat Buu pagoda and lies north of Nha Trang in Ninh Hoa district. The orphanage’s origins are endearing. On a peaceful day, a baby was left at the gates of the pagoda. The nuns cared for him, and from that day on they have taken in orphan children from the area. The orphanage is run by the nuns of the pagoda and its head nun, Chon Minh. They rely entirely upon donations, most of which come from people in the community. There are about 30 children at the orphanage, from newborns to teenagers, and Lac Thien also takes in elderly whose family cannot care for them.
