In June 2024 we had a fun visit to the Lac Thien Orphanage. We had reached out to the caretakers to see what general supplies they needed this month, plus to ask if there were any special requests. They gave us a detailed list of grocery store items and said that they had long wished to have some stone benches for the courtyard. We were happy to buy everything!
On the day of the visit, the children helped us carry all the food to the main steps, and put balloons on the brand new stone garden benches to mark the occasion. This month’s food included bags of rice, boxes of ramen, milk, sugar, cooking oil, seasonings, and fish sauce.
Next, we handed out yogurt cups for all the children to enjoy. Then everyone played with balloons!
This charity trip was made possible through the kind donations from Jessica Dang, Elaine Nguyen, David and Trini Nguyen, and Harry Leong. For Harry, the donation was in memory of Mrs. Sau Yue Eng.
ABOUT THE LAC THIEN ORPHANAGE
Founded in 2006, the Lac Thien Orphanage is part of the Phat Buu pagoda and lies north of Nha Trang in Ninh Hoa district. The orphanage’s origins are endearing. On a peaceful day, a baby was left at the gates of the pagoda. The nuns cared for him, and from that day on they have taken in orphan children from the area. The orphanage is run by the nuns of the pagoda and its head nun, Chon Minh. They rely entirely upon donations, most of which come from people in the community. There are about 30 children at the orphanage, from newborns to teenagers, and Lac Thien also takes in elderly whose family cannot care for them.
