This April, our team returned to the Song Lo Orphanage for our monthly delivery of essential supplies. It was a day defined by community, generosity, and a very special frozen treat!
Market to Mission
Our morning began at the local markets, where our team hand-selected fresh produce and high-quality goods. We loaded the van to the brim, ensuring the children and caretakers are well-stocked for the weeks ahead.
This month’s delivery included:
- Proteins & Staples: Vegan meats (pork, beef, and sausages), tofu sheets, beans, and shrimp.
- Pantry Essentials: Flour, rice paper, ramen, peanut butter, and a variety of seasonings.
- Hygiene & Care: Toothpaste, soap, detergent, fabric softener, and Tiger Balm.
- Snacks: Meat pies, rice crackers, and tapioca balls.
A Sweet Surprise
While the pantry staples are vital for daily life, the highlight of the visit was undoubtedly the dessert! We surprised the children with ice cream popsicles, turning a routine delivery into a pure celebration. Seeing their faces light up with every bite reminded us why these visits matter so much.
Heartfelt Thanks
This trip was made possible through the incredible kindness of Christopher Dang. Your support directly impacts the health and happiness of these children—thank you for making this month so much brighter!
ABOUT THE SONG LO ORPHANAGE
The history of the Song Lo Orphanage’s beginnings is heartwarming. As the story goes, a Buddhist monk was traveling in the countryside when he encountered a woman who said she could not care for her 2 children. She left the babies with the monk and fled. Not expecting to have 2 babies to care for, the monk made his way to the Song Lo pagoda, and the head nun at the pagoda, Sister Cat, agreed to care for the children. From that point on, orphans have been either brought to the pagoda, or abandoned at their gates. Formed in 2012, the Song Lo Orphanage cares for a small group of young children. Located adjacent the Son Lo pagoda, it’s a small facility deep in the countryside west of Nha Trang.
