On September 14, 2018 we visited the Suoi Cat Charity Home & School with essential supplies and a fun treat for the Mid-Autumn Festival. Suoi Cat is a poor community to the west of Nha Trang, composed of rural farming hamlets that live in poverty. The Suoi Cat Charity Home & School is a loving place that houses and cares for many of the community’s children whose families struggle to support and provide for them. The home is composed of young children and teenage girls, who stay at the home year-round, sleep in dormitories, and have meals together in a communal dining hall.
We contacted the caretakers to learn of the Home’s most pressing needs and organized a visit. We brought boxes of yellow noodles, packages of white noodles, seasonings, kitchen supplies, and cleaning supplies. As a surprise for the children, we handed out traditional paper lanterns and snacks for the Mid-Autumn Festival. The Mid-Autumn Festival is a fun holiday for children, as they eat yummy snacks, put candles in their lanterns, and parade about in the evening.
This charity trip was made possible through the kind donations of Adam Le, Daniel Cole, Suruchi Khemka, and Dan, Van, and Devin Haynes.
