This April, we returned to the Loc Tho Charity School with a mission to restock their pantry and upgrade their learning environment. After coordinating with the school’s staff to identify their most pressing needs, we were able to provide both essential nutrition and much-needed classroom infrastructure.

Enhancing the Classrooms

While food is always a priority, the school coordinators shared a special request this month: new desks for the teachers. We were thrilled to deliver and install six new desks across the classrooms, providing the educators with a dedicated, professional space to support their students.

Restocking the Pantry

The children greeted our team in the courtyard as we unloaded a massive shipment of provisions. This month’s delivery included:

  • Pantry Staples: Large bags of rice, cooking oil, sugar, and vegetarian fish sauce.
  • Protein & Sides: Assorted meats, vegetarian sausages, shiitake mushrooms, and shrimp noodles.
  • Fresh Goods: A variety of fresh vegetables, fruit, and milk.

A Sweet Tradition

No visit to Loc Tho is complete without a little celebration! We kept our favorite tradition alive by setting up an ice cream and bubble tea station in the courtyard.

The students formed patient, orderly lines to receive cones topped with chocolate syrup while others got their own bubble tea drinks. Seeing the children milling about the courtyard, enjoying their afternoon treat and laughing with one another, was undoubtedly the highlight of the trip.

This special charity trap was made possible through the kindness of our donors: Luanne Lemmer, Bellisa Bui, and three anonymous donors, one of whom made his donation in memory of Hue Hao Nguyen. Thank you for making these smiles—and these new desks—possible!

ABOUT THE LOC THO CHARITY SCHOOL

The Loc Tho Charity School, established in 1991 by Sister Thich Nu Dieu Y, has a long-standing history of providing free education to underprivileged children. Sister Dieu Y dedicated her life to this cause, and after her passing in 2014, the compassionate nuns of the Loc Tho Pagoda have continued her incredible work.

This primary school offers a vital service to the community, providing a free education for children whose families cannot afford public schooling. The school covers all expenses, including textbooks, uniforms, shoes, school supplies, and teachers’ fees, ensuring every child has the opportunity to learn. Beyond academics, Loc Tho Charity School also provides breakfast and lunch for its students and offers a nurturing home for several orphans and foster children.
