In December 2020 we had a lovely holiday visit to the Anh Dao Orphanage. We had contacted the head nun at the orphanage and said that we wanted to have a big visit with the children. She gave us a detailed list of the orphanage’s current needs, and our team did all the shopping at local markets.

When we arrived, the children helped carry everything into the main common room, and we set up chairs for all the little ones. We brought bags of rice, racks of eggs, boxes of ramen noodles, dried squid, varieties of mushrooms, vegan pork, vegan beef, vegan pork pies, breads, packages of silk tofu, bottles of fish sauce, bottles of soy sauce, cooking oil, seasonings, sleeping mats, laundry detergent, fabric softener, and cleaning supplies.

As a fun surprise, we handed out cakes and treats to all the children. So yummy! Next, the children took our team of volunteers on a tour of the gardens behind the orphanage. They showed use their vegetable and fruit gardens where they grow healthy food for the orphanage. It was a lovely visit!

This wonderful holiday visit was sponsored by Father John Bayer and Father Ambrose Strong on behalf of Cistercian Preparatory School. Thank you!!!

ABOUT THE ANH DAO ORPHANAGE

Founded in 2004 by the Buddhist nun Thich Nu An Son, a large group of orphans are cared for at this wonderful home in Ninh Hoa, 62 kilometers north of Nha Trang. Visit the orphanage and you’ll find a well-organized and loving environment. The children are happy, and it’s a joy to sit, talk, and play with the little ones. To help provide nourishment to the children, and as a small means of earning funds, Sister An Son tends a small farm behind the orphanage, in front of the girl’s living quarters. The children eat the vegetables that are grown here, and the surplus can be sold to help pay for monthly expenses.
