April 2025 brought immense joy as we spent a delightful afternoon with the bright children at the Loc Tho Charity School. Prior to our visit, we consulted with the dedicated nuns there to understand their current needs. Armed with a comprehensive list, our team headed to local markets, filling a van with essential food and supplies before making our way to the school.
Our delivery this month included much-needed items such as bags of ice, cooking oil, milk, vegan pork, mushrooms, seaweed, tofu sheets, sugar, noodles, seasonings, vegan fish sauce, vegan meat pies, detergent, toilet cleaner, hand soap, and wipes.
We arrived just as the children were enjoying their lunch break. Afterwards, we had the pleasure of preparing special boba tea sweet drinks for everyone – a welcome treat that brought many smiles! It was truly a lovely and rewarding visit.
This charitable endeavor was made possible by the generous contributions of Ronald Schierer, Linh Lam, Elaine Nguyen, an anonymous Facebook donor, and Dan, Van, and Devin Haynes. Our deepest gratitude goes out to you all!
About the Loc Tho Charity School
Established in 1991 by the dedicated Sister Thich Nu Dieu Y, the Loc Tho Pagoda has proudly operated a charity school serving the local community. Sister Dieu Y devoted her life to caring for these children until her passing in 2014. Today, the school is lovingly managed by the compassionate nuns of the Loc Tho pagoda. It functions as a free primary school, providing education to disadvantaged children whose families are unable to afford the costs of public schooling. The school generously covers all expenses, including textbooks, uniforms, shoes, school supplies, and teachers’ fees, ensuring that all children are welcome regardless of their circumstances. In addition to education, the school provides students with daily breakfast and lunch. Furthermore, the pagoda offers care and support for several orphans and foster children.
