In September 2023 we had a great visit to the Song Lo Orphanage and were thrilled to be able to support the children’s education for the upcoming school year. We had coordinated with the caretakers ahead of time and arranged to bring lots of food and general supplies for the month of September. They also provided us all the detailed education costs, and we made all the arrangements before coming out.

When our team arrived, the children helped carry all the supplies into the common room. On this visit, we brought glass noodles, tofu sheets, mushrooms, yogurt, sriracha, mung beans, black beans, rice cakes, peanuts, vegan meats including goat, meatballs, chicken and beef, vegan fish sauce and oyster sauce, toilet paper, office supplies, laundry detergent and fabric softener.

In support of the children’s education, we also brought new backpacks, shoes, school supplies, and paid all the children’s school fees. Finally, we had a Mid-Autumn Festival party with the children!

This charity trip was made possible through the generous donations from Fred Sims, Hung Pham, and a corporate donation from Capital Group. Thank you!!!

ABOUT THE SONG LO ORPHANAGE

The history of the Song Lo Orphanage’s beginnings is heartwarming. As the story goes, a Buddhist monk was traveling in the countryside when he encountered a woman who said she could not care for her 2 children. She left the babies with the monk and fled. Not expecting to have 2 babies to care for, the monk made his way to the Song Lo pagoda, and the head nun at the pagoda, Sister Cat, agreed to care for the children. From that point on, orphans have been either brought to the pagoda, or abandoned at their gates. Formed in 2012, the Song Lo Orphanage cares for a small group of young children. Located adjacent the Son Lo pagoda, it’s a small facility deep in the countryside west of Nha Trang.
