Our team made another wonderful trip back to Song Lo Orphanage this July, delivering a full van of vital provisions, nutritious plant-based foods, and extra treats for the kids.
As always, we coordinated directly with the head caretakers ahead of time to compile an exact wish list of necessary supplies. Armed with the roster, our team hit the local markets to stock up on household essentials, personal care items, and rich, protein-dense foods.
What We Brought This Month
- Fresh & Shelf-Stable Foods: Assorted mushrooms, tofu sheets, vegan meats and sausages, peanut butter, beans, spaghetti noodles, ramen, fresh local produce, yogurt drinks, and rich pantry staples like cooking oil, spices, and seasonings.
- Hygiene & Living Needs: Shampoo, body wash, daily toiletries, Tiger Balm, dish soap, laundry detergent, fabric softener, and heavy-duty trash bags.
Unloading was a team effort! The children eagerly joined our volunteers in the common room, helping carry and organize the stock. Afterwards, everyone gathered in a giant circle on the floor to share a fresh, hot lunch that our team picked up on the drive over.

ABOUT THE SONG LO ORPHANAGE
The history of the Song Lo Orphanage’s beginnings is heartwarming. As the story goes, a Buddhist monk was traveling in the countryside when he encountered a woman who said she could not care for her 2 children. She left the babies with the monk and fled. Not expecting to have 2 babies to care for, the monk made his way to the Song Lo pagoda, and the head nun at the pagoda, Sister Cat, agreed to care for the children. From that point on, orphans have been either brought to the pagoda, or abandoned at their gates. Formed in 2012, the Song Lo Orphanage cares for a small group of young children. Located adjacent the Son Lo pagoda, it’s a small facility deep in the countryside west of Nha Trang.
