This month, we delivered essential food and supplies to the Song Lo Orphanage, continuing our monthly commitment to the children there. Our team worked with the orphanage coordinators to identify their most urgent needs, then purchased everything on their list. The children were enthusiastic about helping us unload the van and organize the provisions in the common room.
The delivery included a wide range of items:
- Food: Vegan beef patties, sausages, and fish sauce, various mushrooms, ramen, sugar, beans, peas, breadcrumbs, tapioca balls, fresh vegetables, and peanuts.
- Household supplies: Toiletries, batteries, dish soap, detergent, Tiger Balm, and new trash cans.
We also covered the children’s education costs for the upcoming school term, providing everything they’ll need for a successful year. This included new school uniforms, textbooks, school supplies, backpacks, and footwear.
As a special surprise, we brought sweet cakes for all the children, which brought a lot of joy and smiles to their faces!
This trip was made possible by the incredible generosity of our donors. A huge thank you to Luanne Lemmer, Littlechad Newfield, Jef O’Riley, Roger Puckett, Thi Tran Vu, and Ronald Schierer for their continued kindness and support.
ABOUT THE SONG LO ORPHANAGE
The history of the Song Lo Orphanage’s beginnings is heartwarming. As the story goes, a Buddhist monk was traveling in the countryside when he encountered a woman who said she could not care for her 2 children. She left the babies with the monk and fled. Not expecting to have 2 babies to care for, the monk made his way to the Song Lo pagoda, and the head nun at the pagoda, Sister Cat, agreed to care for the children. From that point on, orphans have been either brought to the pagoda, or abandoned at their gates. Formed in 2012, the Song Lo Orphanage cares for a small group of young children. Located adjacent the Son Lo pagoda, it’s a small facility deep in the countryside west of Nha Trang.
