Our team returned to Song Lo Orphanage this August for our monthly visit, arriving with a van packed full of essential supplies and special treats for the children.
To ensure every donation meets immediate needs, we coordinate directly with the head caretakers to build a precise wish list before every trip. Thanks to that preparation, this month’s delivery included:
- Nutritious Staples & Ingredients: Plant-based meats (beef, pork, and meat pies), tofu sheets, seaweed, assorted mushrooms, mung beans, agar powder, flour, peanut butter, chili sauce, and fish sauce.
- Prepared Meals & Snacks: Cheese, fresh vegetables, milk, packages of instant noodles, and boxes of ramen.
- Hygiene & Household Goods: Body wash, toothpaste, mouthwash, washcloths, Tiger Balm, laundry detergent, fabric softener, trash bags, and essential school supplies.
Once the provisions were neatly unloaded into the common room, everyone took a break to enjoy the afternoon together. Our team brought along warm noodle dishes and fresh drinks from a local restaurant, making for a lively, joyful meal with the children.
This seamless visit and the bright smiles it brought were only possible because of our incredible donor community. ABOUT THE SONG LO ORPHANAGE
The history of the Song Lo Orphanage’s beginnings is heartwarming. As the story goes, a Buddhist monk was traveling in the countryside when he encountered a woman who said she could not care for her 2 children. She left the babies with the monk and fled. Not expecting to have 2 babies to care for, the monk made his way to the Song Lo pagoda, and the head nun at the pagoda, Sister Cat, agreed to care for the children. From that point on, orphans have been either brought to the pagoda, or abandoned at their gates. Formed in 2012, the Song Lo Orphanage cares for a small group of young children. Located adjacent the Son Lo pagoda, it’s a small facility deep in the countryside west of Nha Trang.
