In February 2024 we had a lovely charity trip to the Lac Thien Orphanage. Lac Thien is one of the larger orphanages that we support, and every month we reach out to the caretakers to learn what the orphanage needs. We take down careful notes, make a shopping list, and head out to local markets to buy everything requested. Our team then loads up a van and makes the drive north into Ninh Hoa to visit the children.
When our team arrived, many of the children were having nap time, and came out into the courtyard to greet us. We stacked all the provisions on a table, and the children gathered round. On this visit, we brought seasonings, bags of rice, boxes of instant noodles, packages of instant porridge, milk, cooking oil, diapers, and snacks.
As a yummy treat, we handed out ice cream bars and cones to all the children. So many smiles!
This charity trip was made possible through the kind donations from Thao Minn, Trang Nguyen, Dan, Van, and Devin Haynes, and JL Support Services. Thank you!!!
ABOUT THE LAC THIEN ORPHANAGE
Founded in 2006, the Lac Thien Orphanage is part of the Phat Buu pagoda and lies north of Nha Trang in Ninh Hoa district. The orphanage’s origins are endearing. On a peaceful day, a baby was left at the gates of the pagoda. The nuns cared for him, and from that day on they have taken in orphan children from the area. The orphanage is run by the nuns of the pagoda and its head nun, Chon Minh. They rely entirely upon donations, most of which come from people in the community. There are about 30 children at the orphanage, from newborns to teenagers, and Lac Thien also takes in elderly whose family cannot care for them.
