This February, we had the pleasure of returning to the Song Lo Orphanage to deliver our monthly allocation of essential food and general supplies. Our team spent the morning at local markets, hand-selecting fresh goods and loading up a van to ensure the children and caretakers had everything they needed for the weeks ahead.

Sustenance and Care

Thanks to your generosity, we were able to provide a comprehensive variety of supplies, including:

  • Pantry Staples: Dried tofu, vegan pork and sausages, mung beans, peanuts, sunflower seeds, and a diverse selection of noodles (instant, vermicelli, and rice noodles).
  • Seasonings & Flavors: Fish sauce, chili sauce, black bean sauce, sugar, and various seasonings.
  • Hygiene & Home: Laundry detergent, fabric softener, toothpaste, toiletries, and essential cleaning supplies.
  • Fresh Goods: A vibrant selection of seasonal fresh fruit.

A Special Treat

While the pantry staples are vital, the absolute highlight of the day was seeing the children’s faces light up when we broke out the ice cream popsicles! It was a joyful moment that turned a routine delivery into a true celebration.

This charity trip was made possible through donations from Roger Puckett, Anh Vo, Bellisa Bui, David and Trini Nguyen, Elaine Nguyen, and an anonymous donor. We also received a donation in memory of Hue Hao Nguyen. Our thanks to all who made this visit with the children possible!

ABOUT THE SONG LO ORPHANAGE

The history of the Song Lo Orphanage’s beginnings is heartwarming. As the story goes, a Buddhist monk was traveling in the countryside when he encountered a woman who said she could not care for her 2 children. She left the babies with the monk and fled. Not expecting to have 2 babies to care for, the monk made his way to the Song Lo pagoda, and the head nun at the pagoda, Sister Cat, agreed to care for the children. From that point on, orphans have been either brought to the pagoda, or abandoned at their gates. Formed in 2012, the Song Lo Orphanage cares for a small group of young children. Located adjacent the Son Lo pagoda, it’s a small facility deep in the countryside west of Nha Trang.
