In September 2023 we had a fun visit with the children at the Loc Tho Charity School outside of Nha Trang. In addition to providing free education to many youngsters, the nuns also serve free breakfast and lunch to the children. With so many mouths to feed, we reached out and asked what supplies we could bring this month to help in their noble cause.

The nuns provided a detailed list of provisions they needed, and our team of volunteers leapt into action. They bought everything on the list at local markets, loaded up a van, and made the drive out to the school. We stacked all the supplies in the courtyard, and the children took a break from their studies to come out and greet out team.

On this visit, we brought bags or rice, milk, potatoes, sugar, mushrooms, tofu sheets, cooking oil, yellow squash, seasonings, meat pies, pork, vegan fish sauce, sweets, dish soap, and laundry detergent.

As a fun surprise for the children, we prepared bubble tea drinks for all to enjoy. So yummy!

This charity trip was made possible through the kindhearted donations from Songloc Dao, Koshu Takatsuji, Daniel Cole, Jef O’Riley, Philip Doughty, Tri Phung, Elaine Nguyen, and Bichlien Nguyen. Thank you!!!

ABOUT THE LOC THO CHARITY SCHOOL

The Loc Tho Pagoda has had a charity school since 1991, which was founded by Sister Thich Nu Dieu Y.  Sister Dieu Y dedicated her life to the children and passed away in 2014. The school is now run by the amazing and loving nuns of the Loc Tho pagoda. It’s a free primary school for poor children in the community whose parents cannot afford the costs of a public education. Textbooks, uniforms, shoes, school supplies, and teachers’ fees are all paid for by the school, and all children are welcome. The school provides breakfast and lunch for the students. The pagoda also cares for several orphans and foster children.
