This past November, we were honored to continue our monthly tradition of supporting the children at Song Lo Orphanage. While our volunteer team usually makes the journey in person, the recent heavy flooding in the region required a different approach this month. To ensure the children didn’t go without, we coordinated directly with local shops to deliver a van packed with every essential on the caretakers’ wish list.

The delivery was stocked with a nutritious variety of food and hygiene essentials, including fresh vegetables, rice crackers, and a wide array of vegetarian proteins like bean curd, sausages, and shrimp. We also provided necessary toiletries to keep the children healthy and comfortable.

The caretakers shared wonderful photos of the children, along with inspiring images of the orphanage staff preparing meals for other vulnerable members of their local community. Even in challenging times, their spirit of giving shines through. This delivery—and all the work we do—is only possible because of our donors: Anh Vo, Bellisa Bui, Elaine Nguyen, and Dan, Van, and Devin Haynes. Thank you for your continued kindness toward the children of Song Lo.

ABOUT THE SONG LO ORPHANAGE

The history of the Song Lo Orphanage’s beginnings is heartwarming. As the story goes, a Buddhist monk was traveling in the countryside when he encountered a woman who said she could not care for her 2 children. She left the babies with the monk and fled. Not expecting to have 2 babies to care for, the monk made his way to the Song Lo pagoda, and the head nun at the pagoda, Sister Cat, agreed to care for the children. From that point on, orphans have been either brought to the pagoda, or abandoned at their gates. Formed in 2012, the Song Lo Orphanage cares for a small group of young children. Located adjacent the Son Lo pagoda, it’s a small facility deep in the countryside west of Nha Trang.
