In May 2023 we had a lovely visit with the children at the Lac Thien Orphanage. We had contacted the nuns at the orphanage and asked what we could bring them for the month. Lac Thien is a large orphanage with many mouths to feed, and we make monthly visits to ensure the nuns have everything they need to care for these precious children.
We took down a detailed list of items to bring and organized a trip. Our team of volunteers bought everything at local markets, loaded up a van, and drove north into Ninh Hoa to see the children. When we arrived, our team stacked all the food and supplies in the main common room. All the children gathered together to welcome our team. So many smiling faces!
On this visit, we brought bags of rice, racks of eggs, seasonings, cooking oil, milk, sugar, soy sauce, instant pho, glass noodles, dish soap, diapers, detergent, and bar soap.
As a fun treat, we handed out chilled yogurt for all the children to enjoy. It was a great visit!
This charity trip was made possible through the kindhearted donations from Nicholas Costello, Vien Lam and Kevin Spring, and an anonymous donor. Thank you!!!
ABOUT THE LAC THIEN ORPHANAGE
Founded in 2006, the Lac Thien Orphanage is part of the Phat Buu pagoda and lies north of Nha Trang in Ninh Hoa district. The orphanage’s origins are endearing. On a peaceful day, a baby was left at the gates of the pagoda. The nuns cared for him, and from that day on they have taken in orphan children from the area. The orphanage is run by the nuns of the pagoda and its head nun, Chon Minh. They rely entirely upon donations, most of which come from people in the community. There are about 30 children at the orphanage, from newborns to teenagers, and Lac Thien also takes in elderly whose family cannot care for them.
