In June 2024 we visited the Song Lo Orphanage with lots of supplies for the month. We support Song Lo every month with food and general supplies, and coordinate with the orphanage caretakers on what to bring. For June, we took a shopping list to local markets, loaded up a van, and made the drive out to see the children.
After we arrived, we brought all the supplies into the common room. On this visit, we brought seasonings, oyster sauce, vegan fish sauce, tofu sheets, vegan pork, vegan chicken, vegan meat balls, vegan meat pies, boxes of ramen, breading, sugar, condensed milk, tapioca balls, beans, mung beans, cheese, baking powder, flour, eggs, quail eggs, fresh vegetables, tea, , mouthwash, shampoo, office supplies, tiger balm, wipes, napkins, toiletries, a set of reading lamps, and standing fans.
As a treat, we handed out bubble tea drinks for all the enjoy. Yummy!
This charity trip was made possible through kind donations from Vanessa Nguyen, Alysha Sims, Daniel Cole, Kateryna Lo, Philip Doughty, Jef O’Riley, and Harry Leong. Thank you! For Harry, this trip was in memory of Mrs. Sau Yue Eng.
ABOUT THE SONG LO ORPHANAGE
The history of the Song Lo Orphanage’s beginnings is heartwarming. As the story goes, a Buddhist monk was traveling in the countryside when he encountered a woman who said she could not care for her 2 children. She left the babies with the monk and fled. Not expecting to have 2 babies to care for, the monk made his way to the Song Lo pagoda, and the head nun at the pagoda, Sister Cat, agreed to care for the children. From that point on, orphans have been either brought to the pagoda, or abandoned at their gates. Formed in 2012, the Song Lo Orphanage cares for a small group of young children. Located adjacent the Son Lo pagoda, it’s a small facility deep in the countryside west of Nha Trang.
