In February 2026, our team had the joy of visiting the Lac Thien Orphanage to celebrate the arrival of the Lunar New Year.
Tet is a time of renewal, and nothing symbolizes that spirit better than the tradition of wearing new clothes. After learning from the caretakers that the children were in need of fresh outfits for the holiday, we couldn’t wait to start planning a day they would remember.
Bringing the Festivities to Life
Our dedicated volunteers scoured local markets to hand-pick supplies, eventually loading a van to the brim for the journey. Upon arrival, the main courtyard was transformed into a festive hub as we organized a variety of gifts:
- New Apparel: Complete outfits and sturdy sandals for every child.
- Traditional Treats: A wide assortment of classic Tet delicacies.
- Lucky Money: Red envelopes (Li Xi) to bring good fortune for the year ahead.
Moments of Joy
Seeing the children’s faces light up as they eagerly tried on their new clothes was the highlight of our trip. To wrap up the celebration, our team prepared and served fresh sweets for everyone to enjoy together.
This heartwarming visit was only possible because of the incredible generosity of our donors: Christopher Dang, Linh Lam, Son Nguyen, and Thao Devine. Thank you for making this Tet so bright for the children of Lac Thien.
ABOUT THE LAC THIEN ORPHANAGE
Founded in 2006, the Lac Thien Orphanage is part of the Phat Buu pagoda and lies north of Nha Trang in Ninh Hoa district. The orphanage’s origins are endearing. On a peaceful day, a baby was left at the gates of the pagoda. The nuns cared for him, and from that day on they have taken in orphan children from the area. The orphanage is run by the nuns of the pagoda and its head nun, Chon Minh. They rely entirely upon donations, most of which come from people in the community. There are about 30 children at the orphanage, from newborns to teenagers, and Lac Thien also takes in elderly whose family cannot care for them.
